Automate tax preparation with Juno

note icon

Note

This article applies to firms in the US.

TaxDome has integrated with Juno, an AI-powered tax preparation platform. This integration saves your firm significant time and money by automating the preparation, data entry, and transfer of client documents into tax software.

Automated data entry with Juno, explained

Juno is an AI-powered tax preparation platform that extracts data from source documents and integrates with tax software to automate data entry and preparation tasks. It is part of TaxDome’s tax return intake and delivery workflow , which helps you collect documents, prepare and deliver completed tax returns to clients.

Once documents are pushed from TaxDome, Juno automatically extracts the data and prepares it for review. You can validate, make adjustments, and then Juno fills out the data directly into your tax software.

Info

Consider using Juno only if you use one of the supported tax software platforms : ProConnect, Drake, Lacerte, CCH Axcess and Ultratax (support for ProSeries, and ProSystem FX coming soon)

Supported file types/tax forms

Juno accepts many formats of documents, including CSV, PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, XLS, XLSX and even handwritten notes (max 50 MB per file). For business returns (1120, 1120S, 1065), supported file types are PDF, XLS, XLSX, and CSV. You don’t need to use any special template–Juno is built to handle whatever your clients send. Just keep in mind: if you have trouble reading a document, the system probably will too.

Supported tax forms:

  • W‑2: Wages,
  • 1099‑NEC: Non-Employee Compensation,
  • 1099‑MISC: Miscellaneous Income,
  • 1099‑INT: Interest,
  • 1099‑DIV: Dividends,
  • 1099‑B (transactions from any broker),
  • 1099‑R: Retirement Income,
  • 1099‑SSA: Social Security Benefits,
  • 1098‑E,
  • Schedules C/E/F (can be uploaded as a CSV or PDF),
  • 1098,
  • 1098‑T,
  • 1099‑G: State/Local Income Tax Refund,
  • Partnership K‑1 for federal and state filings.

Tip

If your client’s source documents are all in a single PDF, you can upload it, and Juno will extract data from each document.

Send docs from TaxDome to Juno

To send client documents to Juno for data extraction, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Clients > Accounts > Docs.

  2. Select the documents you want to send or open the document checklist with attached docs.

  3. Click Send to tax software or Send to Juno button.

  1. A sidebar will open, showing all selected documents. If a document does not pass validation (e.g., wrong format or larger than 50 MB), you will see a note about it in the sidebar.

  2. Select a Return type. If this client has a previous return sent to Juno, TaxDome pre-selects the return type from that send—you can still change it before sending.

    • 1040 — Individual for personal returns

    • 1120 — C corporation, 1120S — S corporation, or 1065 — Partnership for business returns

  1. Depending on the return type, fill in the required fields:

    • 1040 — Individual: Choose the Taxpayer. Check that the taxpayer matches the return you’re preparing in Juno—sending to a different taxpayer will use additional credits. For joint returns, send all documents under the primary filer. Make sure the contact’s first name and last name are filled in . Otherwise, documents can’t be sent to Juno.
  • Business returns: Enter the Company name (legal name) and EIN (format: 12-3456789). Both must match the IRS record tied to this EIN. If you already store the EIN in a custom field, you can fill it in from there instead of typing it .
  1. Select the Tax year and click Send.

  2. Click Send to Juno.

Attention

If this EIN was already sent to Juno from a different account in your firm, Send is disabled—send the document from that account instead.

  1. Log in to Juno and view the Preparer Dashboard. Find the corresponding client that you pushed documents for, and navigate into that client to begin reviewing the extracted data.

Auto-fill EIN from a custom field

Instead of typing the EIN for a business client, you can copy it from a custom field where you already store it—and optionally link that field so it fills in automatically for every business client going forward.

  1. If the EIN field is empty, click Copy from custom field.
  1. Select the custom field that already has this client’s EIN saved. TaxDome previews the value before you confirm.

  2. To reuse that field for every business client automatically instead of copying it one client at a time, select Link the custom field.

  1. Click Copy & link EIN.

Once a custom field is linked firm-wide, this option disappears—the EIN auto-fills where the linked field has a value, or stays empty for manual entry if it doesn’t. You can manage the link from Juno integration settings .

Note

If you edit an EIN that came from a linked custom field, TaxDome asks whether to also save the new value to the client’s account or send it to Juno without saving.

Check document status

After sending documents to Juno, you can always check their status without leaving TaxDome portal. To do this, go to the Clients > Accounts > Docs section and then to Documents or Checklist tab. In the list you can see Juno column and the following statuses:

  • Sending: The document is on its way to Juno. This may take a moment.
  • Processing: Juno is extracting data from the document. This may take a moment.
  • Delivered: The document has been processed in Juno. You can continue from there.
  • Limit reached: You’ve reached your Juno usage limit. Make sure your subscription is active or upgrade to upload more documents.
  • Deleted: The document was deleted in Juno. Send it again if needed.
  • Error: Something went wrong while sending to Juno. Try again or contact Juno support.

Next steps

After receiving documents from TaxDome, Juno extracts data, builds a draft return, and performs an automated review to catch errors and inconsistencies. You can learn how to process data entry in the step-by-step guide .

Once the draft is ready, you can make adjustments and push it directly into your connected tax software, such as Lacerte, ProConnect, Drake, UltraTax, or CCH Axcess. Learn how to work with different tax software .
